Companies innovating in agriculture-related biotechnology products were faced with difficult choices about how to develop new technology over the medium and long term whilst catering to the demands of shareholders in the shorter term. A study of large agro-biotechnology companies, the policy infulences on Technology for Agriculture (PITA) study, undertook a comprehensive review of how major companies were responding to the challenge of reorienting their R&D strategies to incorporate the new technologies and in particular how policy environments impacted on their strategies.
