Engaging with Uncertainty and Risk in Agricultural Biotechnology Regulation: Delivering Safety and Innovation

ESRC/Syngenta Knowledge Exchange Project

The project Engaging with Uncertainty and Risk in Agricultural Biotechnology Regulation: Delivering Safety and Innovation was funded jointly by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and Syngenta. It focused on the EU regulatory process for assessment of the environmental risks associated with the introduction of GM crops in the European Union. This paper summarises the background analysis conducted by Innogen along with the research outcomes, and proposes a new approach to governance and engagement in relation to innovation for agricultural biotechnologies in the EU.
