Peter Kearns is a Principal Administrator at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which is an intergovernmental organisation with 34 member states based in Paris, France. He works in the Environment, Health and Safety Division which addresses issues related to the human health and environmental safety of chemicals, pesticides, nanotechnology and biotechnology. During his 23 years at the OECD, he has focused on promoting international harmonisation in regulatory aspects of emerging and converging technologies. He manages an international team with a multidisciplinary background.
Peter has a PhD in Genetics from the University of Cambridge. After a period of postdoctoral work at the Department of Genetics, Cambridge, he went to work at the (then) UK Government Department of the Environment, where he was responsible for activities to regulate transgenic organisms. He also has a Certificate in Legal Studies from the Open University. He is a visiting fellow at the University of Edinburgh and an occasional lecturer at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, Paris.
