Predicting Alzheimer's disease: facing the challenges of genomics in medicine

Geoff Banda delivers at the 4th ANDI conference

G Banda prize ANDI

Geoff Banda left the African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation (ANDI) annual stakeholders meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethopia (24 – 27 Oct 2011) with a prize.

His talk titled, ‘Elephant in the room!  Financing local pharmaceuticals manufacture: The story of generic antiretroviral drugs (ARV) manufacture in Zimbabwe.’ was voted best oral presentation (Registration, manufacturing and others).

The talk focused on two key areas that have not received due attention in literature and practise: local, long term and sustainable financing of African pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises; and the financial architecture and lending technologies need to support pharmaceutical industrial development. These issues need to be understood and addressed if increased and sustainable productive capacity in local medicines manufacture is to be realised in Africa.
