"Technical standards, regulation and governance in stem cell science: contingency and pragmatics"
The paper provides a discussion of recently completed work on the standardisation of biological markers in the embryonic stem cell field and examines how experimental protocols serve to iron out contingency. It goes on to locate three forms of contingency management - technical standards themselves allied to regulation and governance of the field - and the implications that this has for long-term questions relating to the safety of bioscience technologies.
