Abstract: The presentation will be based mostly on work produced for the Au's forthcoming report: 'Freedom to Innovate', and also on a report written for Panos called 'Who Decides?'  This was a guide for journalists on how developing countries make political decisions on GM crops.

Biography: Ehsan Masood is a science journalist based in London.  He is a consulting editor with Nature and visitng lecturer in international science policy at Imperial College London.  Ehasan's journalism covers science, environment, international development in Africa, Asia and the Midlle East.  He is particularly interested in how societies absorb new technologies and new knowledge.  He is a trustee of Leadership for Environment and Development ( and an advisor to a number of international organizations including the British council, NEPAD and TWAS, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World. His books include 'Dry: Life Without Water' with Daniel Schaffer (Harvard University Press 2006) and 'How Do You Know: Reading Ziauddin Sardar on Islam, Science and Cultural Relations' (Pluto Publishing, 2006).  Ehsan is a graduate in physics for Portsmouth Polytechnic.,3595,en.t4.html
