Outline: In this event, Chaired by Dr Steve Sturdy of the ESRC Genomics Forum, speakers Professor Adam Hedgecoe and Dr Paul McCarthy (both from the ESRC Centre for Economic and Social Aspects of Genomics) will lead discussions about emerging issues relating to border security and the regulation of dual use technologies, such as microbiology and synthetic biology, which can be used to develop biological weapons as well as medicines. They will be highlighting the ways in which social science can engage with these debates to inform policy making related to these topics.
